What to pack for day trips with your baby

Planning a day trip with your little one? Somehow, no matter how many bags you pack, something always gets forgotten. Fret not! We’ve pulled together a handy checklist, so you can head out feeling prepared.

  • Stroller: this may seem obvious, but as well as carrying your baby, strollers are a great place to stash everything else that you need.

  • Bags: take a change bag and a carry-all as well as your usual handbag or backpack.

  • Diaper change supplies: include one diaper for every hour you’ll be out, as well as your everyday change-kit – baby diaper rash cream, travel change mat, diaper bags, wipes, and hand sanitizer.

  • Feeding supplies: spare bibs, muslins, and your baby’s usual milk.

  • Spare clothes: bring a second day-trip outfit, just in case the first one gets messy.

  • Blanket: this handy multi-purpose item can be used to keep your little one warm in air-conditioning or as a cover to use during breastfeeding.

  • Swimsuit and swim diapers: these are essential if you’re heading to the beach or swimming pool.

  • Plastic bags: they’re always handy – for dirty clothes or diapers, wet clothes, half-eaten snacks.

  • Toys: bring a couple of your baby’s favorites to soothe or distract them.

  • Baby-friendly sunscreen and hat: keep your little one protected if you’ll be outside in the sun.

TIP: if your day trips often involve driving in your own car, pre-pack a bag with some of the essentials – wipes, diapers, spare clothes – and always keep it in the trunk as a back-up.
