It’s the final countdown! From your little one’s development to your changing body shape, here’s what to expect in those last three months.
Your baby
In the last 12 weeks your baby will double in size, be able to open and close their eyes and regulate their own body heat too. In your final month, they will probably begin to move into a head-down position ready for birth so your bump may start to change shape.
TIP: Your baby can hear your voice now, so start bonding by talking or singing to them. Encourage your partner to speak to your bump too – this will help them feel included in your pregnancy
Your body
There’s no getting away from it, the last three months aren’t going to be the most comfortable you’ve ever had. You’ll probably find it harder to sleep and that small human pressing down on your bladder will make trips to the toilet more frequent.
TIP: As your bump grows, you’ll probably feel greater pressure on your back so take it easy and put your feet up – it’s time to let your friends and family look after you.
Your emotions
Your estrogen and progesterone levels are now at an all time high so those mood swings may make a comeback – but these hormones help combat stress. So take this time to relax, and prepare yourself for baby. Your maternal instinct to start nesting may kick in but remember your body isn’t as nimble as it was nine months ago so don’t overdo it.
TIP: Use these last few baby-free weeks to rest and spend time with your partner. This will be the last time it’s just the two of you!
Your medical care
Make sure you’ve discussed your birth plan with your midwife. Let them know your concerns and tell them what you’d like to have and to avoid. They’ll be able to talk you through labour signs so you know when to get to the hospital.
TIP: Get organised and have your hospital bag packed early to avoid last-minute stress. Write down anything you have left to do – such as choosing your child car seat.
