How to Dye Your Hair at Home Like a Pro

  1. Test the color using one strand of hair, to see if the hair will pick up the desired tint
  2. Divide your hair into 4 parts: top, right side, left side, right crown, & left crown
  3. Dye the front sections first because these are the most visible, so need the full processing time.
  4. Wash your hair well with water only, and do not use shampoo for a couple of days.

Remember:

  • Do not wash your hair for two days before dyeing it, to maintain scalp oils.
  • Apply a small amount of dye behind your ear or elbow and let it dry to find out if you are allergic.
  • Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to your forehead and ears to protect it from the dye.

  • Do not pick a color too far from the color of your hair
  • Do not use hot water when washing your hair
  • Make sure you clean all the dye from your hair as it can stain
  • Do not wash your hair for at least 24 hours after dyeing it
