How to choose the right car seat

That first ride from hospital to home is a huge milestone, and that means you need the right equipment for the job. Read our guide on picking the right car seat.

What do I need to know?

  • The safest way to transport your little one is in a specially-modified seat for babies
  • It is recommended that all children under the age of 12 travel with the appropriate car seat or booster seat
  • Car seats can be positioned front or rear-facing in a car. It’s recommended that you keep your baby rear facing for as long as possible
  • It’s a good idea to give your baby a toy or a soft book to play with to help them relax.
  • Having a young baby in the car can be distracting, so take it easy, keep the car cool, and stop if you need to

How do I know which car seat I need?

This is based on the weight of your baby. Car seats are split into different safety groups from 0 to 3. Here’s a simple guide:

  • Group 0 + (suitable for babies up to 13kg)
  • Group 1 (suitable for toddlers 9-18kg)
  • Group 2 and 3 (suitable from 15kg)
